The Saint Matthew Passion is one of the masterpieces that I felt I really had to conduct with Les Talens Lyriques before I die. (Maybe I’ll die after the production… we’ll see… [laughs].)
I have never performed this work before, but I feel that I’m on home ground; as a harpsichordist, Bach is my reference. My aim here is not to create a monument in tribute to Bach, but rather to bring out the humanity that is expressed in this universally well-known work.
