Les Talens Lyriques partnered with the association Les Fripons, specialists in audiovisual awareness and media education, for a project that is as creative as it is educational. Together, they guided students through the creation of original podcasts, inspired by the ensemble’s music and enriched by the many discoveries made throughout the programme — from encounters with musicians and in-class concerts to visits to the opera.
Five classes joined the adventure!
Two 8th-grade classes from Jean Perrin Middle School in Paris and three high school classes from Guillaume Apollinaire High School in Thiais took part in the project. Each class produced two episodes, enriched by their musical experiences and emotions. Once completed, the episodes are published on ARTE Radio’s audioblog, as part of the collection “Les Rendez-vous lyriques.”
Finding their voice
Throughout this journey, students learn to use their voices, control their breathing, and play with the rhythm and musicality of speech — all with one goal: to captivate their audience! Intonation, articulation, and expressiveness are at the heart of this introduction to the art of speaking… like a true mic pro!
Artistic practice
A vibrant and participatory immersion in the world of baroque music through vocal and instrumental practice, writing workshops or even fun instrument-making workshop: each year or establishment has its own project!
Our flagship project : the orchestra class
For the past ten years, Les Talens Lyriques has introduced non-musician students to orchestral playing through long-term instrumental training programmes, typically lasting three to four years.
As part of this initiative, pupils are given their own instrument — strings, brass, percussion, or keyboard — and receive weekly instruction during school hours. Each week, they benefit from two hours of group learning led by a cultural mediator and musicians from Les Talens Lyriques.
In 2023–2024, the ensemble completed a three-year cycle with pupils from the Anton Makarenko School in Ivry-sur-Seine, who took part in the orchestra class from Year 4 to Year 6.
In 2024–2025, a brand-new orchestra class was launched at Lycée Guillaume Apollinaire in Thiais (94).
At the heart of this programme lies a powerful message from Les Talens Lyriques: it’s never too late to start learning music!
At the heart of the Talens Lyriques orchestra
Guided rehearsals
Whether at their school or in a concert hall, students are immersed in the world of the orchestra through guided rehearsals designed especially for them by our cultural mediator.
They learn to identify the various instruments, explore major musical works, and gain insight into the discipline and teamwork required of an orchestra.
Concerts in class
These small-scale concerts with Talens Lyriques artists provide an opportunity for direct exchanges between students, teachers and artists. Presented by the Talens Lyriques cultural mediator, the concerts help to prepare the pupils for certain repertoires, composers, instruments or works that the pupils can then rediscover by attending our concerts or performances. These in-class concerts break away from the codes of the classical concert, establishing a close relationship and dialogue during these privileged moments between the artists and the pupils.
Instruments presentations
The Baroque music period is full of unique instruments, some of which have been forgotten or have evolved into different forms over time. These workshops give students the opportunity to see, hear, and understand the history of the key instruments of this era: the viola da gamba, harpsichord, traverso, violin, oboe, and more. Musicians from Les Talens Lyriques take part in these sessions, presenting their instruments, explaining their evolution and playing techniques, and demonstrating them in class.
