“This year, amidst the lavender fields of Provence, we shall be celebrating two anniversaries: thirty years since the founding of Les Talens Lyriques and forty years of existence for the Simiane Early Music Festival, “Les Riches Heures Musicales de La Rotonde”. This magical place, immortalised by the great photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, is one of the summer-festival venues where Les Talens Lyriques have always set up camp. The friendship that has grown up over the years has led us now to devise the programme for this fortieth edition. Fidelity is the key word in our choices, with concerts calling upon artists who have appeared regularly at the festival with Les Talens Lyriques: Sandrine Piau, Karine Deshayes, Florence Malgoire, Kaori Uemura, and myself in recital. I see these concerts as a tribute not only to the artists who have proved their talent and their commitment to us over the years, but also to the devoted team of enthusiastic volunteers, who have shown such an unfailing belief in Les Talens Lyriques over the past three decades. Coming to Simiane is like returning to a book that was begun a long time ago, and each year adding a new chapter. And with each year comes the prospect of sharing unconditional friendship, loyalty and artistic commitment – the values of Les Talens Lyriques!”
