“In this opera the basic struggle centres on the age-old contest between the forces of good and evil, a subject that we tend to oversimplify nowadays (as in the current geopolitical issues). To my mind, nothing is ever really black or white.
There is much more of Gluck in The Magic Flute than one might imagine, which is what interests me in revisiting this masterpiece, which has already given rise to many different versions. It is my hope that audiences will be enchanted by this new reading of the work!”
