“The Accademia dell’Arcadia, founded in Rome in 1690, attracted many artists, not only from Italy, but also from further afield. The academy’s aesthetic ideal of simplicity and naturalness was applied in particular to the cantata genre, which was very popular at that time with composers such as Alessandro Scarlatti, Händel and Montéclair. We have always explored this repertoire with Sandrine Piau, and I am delighted to see her with us again for this new production!”
