Performing Alcina again is like coming home: the joy of returning to a familiar repertoire, with singers I know and cherish! Alcina is probably Händel’s most perfectly balanced opera. It deals with the subjects of love and abandonment with great poignancy, and makes the main character, the sorceress Alcina, very human. We are dealing here with purely human conflicts, which is what gives the opera such emotional power.
