« Agrippina embodies a torn maternal love – devoted to her son Nero, yet fearing for her own life as he descends into cruelty. She wavers between forgiveness and self-preservation, and this tension is beautifully mirrored in the two cantatas we present: one steeped in dreamlike mystery, the other in political tragedy and violence.
Marie Lys is a singer I have long admired and greatly enjoy working with. Her expressive artistry, flawless diction, and vocal agility make her a perfect interpreter of Händel – and of Lully, where she truly excels. After her remarkable Sangaride in Atys, she will be a magnificent Proserpine. From Cleopatra to Jephtha and Salieri, her talent is widely acclaimed – and our collaboration is just beginning.
This programme also marks a new chapter, as we inaugurate a concert series at the Festival de Beaune’s Chapelle des Jacobins. »
