Pupils' orchestra: “Les Talens de Varèse”
Les Talens Lyriques started the formation of an orchestra of non-musician pupils with a 6th grade class of the Varèse junior high school in the 19th arrondissement of Paris at the beginning of the 2009 school year.
They bought a set of instruments composed of 20 stringed instruments, 6 wind instruments and percussion, thanks to the support of the Caisse d’Epargne Ile-de-France.
This class has two additional hours of music per week, led by the music teacher of the junior high school (Irène Cazes), the cultural mediator of Les Talens Lyriques (Clément Lebrun), and musicians of the ensemble, who come to teach the pupils the basics of instrumental technique.
The pupils gave several concerts during the school year and particularly at the end of the year, at which they present the work done during the year, at a special occasion for sharing between the families, teachers and staff of the junior high school, Christophe Rousset and the musicians of Les Talens Lyriques.
This symphonic ensemble lets the pupils discover the evolution of the orchestra between the Baroque period and the Classical period through practice and the playing of pieces from the repertoire (Purcell, Bach, Haydn, etc.), specially arranged for them.
The pupils gain experience in orchestral practice which they then discover on the professional level via the rehearsals of Les Talens Lyriques in residence.
The teaching objectives:
- Learning to enjoy music by playing it
- Taking responsibility for and taking care of an instrument
- Starting to learn an instrument as part of a collective approach, work as an ensemble
- Learning to listen to others and to produce a collective work.
